On January 31, 2017, Kings Park High School students from the classes of Senior Experience, Accounting and the DECA: Business Club learned about job applications from their high school courses of study at Bethpage Federal Credit Union’s headquarters.

The students learned all about the behind the scenes work at the Credit Union by shadowing Jessica Lucas and Lina Penuela from Community Development and Relations touring the departments like the tellers, vault, human resources and executive offices.  Samantha Warshauer, a senior, said “As business students, it was a great opportunity to get an inside look into the real world and explore possible career paths, with help from experienced professionals.”

Afterwards, the management spoke with the students about their own career paths and how their prospective departments are integral to the organization. “Bethpage Federal Credit Union is a place where I can see myself in a couple of years”, said senior Jillian Doyle.  Students were able to ask questions, which led to a meaningful personal experience.  Senior, Amanda Hall, said “It was a real eye opener for me.

Everyone was very formal and informative; it felt like a great working community.” Junior Achievement of New York has been sponsoring the Job Shadowing program for over a decade as well as coordinating these work experiences with Bethpage Federal Credit Union.  Junior Achievement is a non-profit organization dedicated to financial literacy and career skills development.
