At tonight’s Special Meeting of the Board of Education, the Board voted to enter into a lease agreement with FSB Early Start Center Inc., d/b/a New Beginnings starting September 1, 2012 through August 31, 2013.
Board members in attendance included board president, Marie Goldstein, board vice president, Liz Barrett and board trustee, Charles Leo. The vote was unanimous.
New Beginnings will be running a child care center at the San Remo Administration Building on Lawrence Road.
Owner Sylvia Bastone was also present at the meeting.
A five day before and after care program will open on September 4th for children in grades K through 6. The hours will be 6:30 AM to 6:00 PM, although the center plans to be flexible when it comes to days and hours.
The Kings Park School District will provide transportation for district children to school in the morning and back to the center in the afternoon.
“I have my school age license,” explains Bastone, “and I anticipate getting my day care license in October.”
Thereafter, New Beginnings will be accepting full day care for children from the ages of 6 weeks to Pre- K.
“We are fully staffed to begin our school age program,” Bastone says.
She is very excited about the program, explaining that her center follows the Creative Curriculum childhood educational system.
“We are also going to offer two staff members per fifteen children,” Bastone explains. “By law we are only required to have one.”
Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Susan Agruso, was pleased with the outcome.
“Using the building keeps it from falling into disrepair, the school is making a bit of money on it and most importantly, it offers a good service to the community,” Agruso explains.
